Researching property history
Case
“A” had recently moved into a historic rowhome in Baltimore’s Riverside neighborhood. They didn’t have a specific mystery or question; they were just curious: Who lived here before us? What kind of history does this place hold?
Findings
Researched the historical development of the Riverside neighborhood, including its early connection to the B&O railroad, which led to worker housing construction in the mid-to-late-1800s
Traced over 60 years of residents and details of their lives
Compiled a visual timeline of address listings, occupations, and related newspaper clippings
Outcome
“A” received an organized PDF detailing the home’s evolution, with timelines, maps, and records of its known residents from the 1880s through the mid-20th century. My report added historical context to the building’s architecture and location and offered a tangible sense of the people who had lived there long before it became theirs.
